The design draws inspiration from the renowned Longworth Chuck, a versatile movement highly prized for its applications in woodturning. Originally conceived by the late Mr. Longworth, a respected member of the Hunter Valley Woodturning Club in New South Wales, Australia, this ingenious design merits full credit and recognition. To elevate this concept to new heights, I made several crucial modifications, notably adding mass and eliminating the need for wingnuts to ensure added safety. This revamped version is engineered to be as adaptable as possible, capable of being fabricated from any material with minimal changes to the file. A significant advantage of this design lies in its compact size, fitting neatly within a makerbot's 10cm build surface dimensions while maintaining an optimal height of 7cm. One notable feature that users will appreciate is the option to create custom jaw designs tailored to their specific needs. This remarkable tool is incredibly versatile and can be utilized not only as part of a lathe setup but also on a drill or Dremel, making it an invaluable asset for various tasks around your workshop. Alternatively, you can use it to securely hold items on your workbench. During the modeling process, I relied on the expertise provided by Carrara and Hexagon, employing their features to bring this project to life. Despite being well-versed in using them for a long time to mix creative projects with photography, the precision required here proved to be a new challenge to tackle successfully. To construct this chunk effectively, you will require eight M4-40 cap screws, eight locking nuts, one M7-40 hex bolt (minimum requirement), and its corresponding nut. To experience the chuck in action firsthand, I recommend viewing the accompanying video: http://youtu.be/94ZhwGUWB5I
