Four Jaw Self Centring Chuck

The design is inspired by the Longworth Chuck, a fantastic movement that has been widely used for Woodturning. This versatile chuck was originally designed by Mr. Longworth of the Hunter Valley Woodturning Club in New South Wales, Australia. Unfortunately, he passed away soon after unveiling his design at a club meeting. The late Mr. Longworth deserves full credit for creating this groundbreaking movement. To improve upon the original design, I made significant changes to increase its mass and eliminate the need for wingnuts, making it safer to use. I also aimed to make it as versatile as possible by allowing it to be created in various materials with minimal modifications required. This chuck is a perfect size, capable of fitting within the 10cm x 7cm build surface of a makerbot. One of the best features of this design is its adaptability - you can easily create custom jaws to suit your specific needs. Whether you're using it on a lathe, drill, dremel, or simply as a benchtop holder, this chuck is an indispensable tool. I had a great time modeling the chuck in Carrara and Hexagon, which allowed me to bring my creative vision to life. As someone who has been experimenting with 3D printing for a while, I was excited to try something more precise. To assemble the chuck, you will need 8 M4-40 cap screws, 8 locking nuts, 1 M7-40(min) hex bolt and nut. Check out this video of the chuck in action: http://youtu.be/94ZhwGUWB5I
