Four (4) Inch Round Electrical Junction Box

This is a standard design for a 4-inch outdoor electrical junction box that should work perfectly for applications like motion-sensing lights, overhead lighting fixtures, and any other projects that require an outdoor electrical junction box. I personally use it for motion-sensing lights, but you can customize it easily via the included .scad file to fit your specific needs. There are two versions of the model: one for 1/2-inch PVC conduit threads and another for 3/4-inch PVC threads. You should be able to modify it quickly using the .scad file. I recommend opting for the 1/2-inch version, as this is what you would typically find in a hardware store. To use the included .scad file, you'll need to have the OpenSCAD Threads library installed: http://dkprojects.net/openscad-threads/. Both models feature the standard screw hole layout and are compatible with #10 screws. The outside mounting screw holes are slightly larger to accommodate common exterior screws. It's highly recommended that you apply dielectric grease around the perimeter (top) and in the threaded holes when screwing things into them, ensuring a water-tight seal. You may also want to use washers when attaching the box to a wall or ceiling. Note: To comply with the US National Electrical Code for 110-120V applications, you'll need to print this design using a flame-retardant filament (or resin) that is UV-stable. Alternatively, consider applying UV-blocking paint or spray, such as Krylon UV Protect Gloss, which I will be using. Minor update: On May 25, 2018, I updated the .scad file to use 'inside=true' for the threads, aligning it with the NPT specification. The models have been re-rendered and updated accordingly.
