Fountain of Ganymede
myminifactory
This massive marble sculpture by Stoldo Lorenzi rests majestically atop the Ganymede Fountain in Florence's breathtaking Boboli Gardens. The figures depicted are a young man, Ganymede, proudly sitting atop an eagle, symbolizing Zeus' authority and power. Ganymede was suddenly snatched away by Zeus from Mount Ida, near ancient Troy in Phrygia, marking the beginning of his extraordinary journey to the heavens. Before his royal status was revealed, Ganymede spent his days tending sheep, a simple yet rugged pursuit typical of a hero's childhood. Zeus either commanded an eagle or transformed himself into one to carry the youth to Mount Olympus. The Abduction of Ganymede (circa 1650), Eustache Le Sueur
