Fossilized Sand Ripples
thingiverse
Visitors can discover this striking fossilized sand ripple exhibit at Falls Park in Sioux Falls, SD, on a colossal slab of vibrant pink quartzite along the Big Sioux River's northern edge. The stunning rock formation here represents some of North America's oldest geological treasures. Pink quartzite outcroppings can be spotted throughout Southeast South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota, and Northwest Iowa. As one of the region's most durable and abundant resources, this material was extensively used to construct early homes and public buildings in Sioux Falls. It eventually became a favorite choice for street pavers stretching from South Dakota to Illinois and into Iowa.
