Fort Pike (New Orleans, Louisiana)
sketchfab
Fort Pike is a decommissioned 19th-century United States fort named after Brigadier General Zebulon Montgomery Pike. It was constructed after the War of 1812 to protect the Rigolets pass in Louisiana, a narrow waterway connecting the Gulf of Mexico via Lake Borgne to Lake Pontchartrain that borders New Orleans. Located near the community of Petite Coquille within the city limits of New Orleans today, the fort's remains were once a major tourist attraction. However, they suffered significant damage from Hurricane Katrina's storm surge in 2005 and remained closed for some time. Furthermore, the fort was also forced to close after being severely impacted by Hurricanes Gustav in 2008 and Isaac in 2012, which caused additional damage to its structures.
