Formula Off Road is a type of off-road racing that originated from Iceland. The event began as a way to raise funds for local rescue teams, with drivers showcasing their modified 4WD vehicles on the country's hills. As it evolved, Formula Off Road transformed into a competition between teams using custom-built cars specifically designed for this purpose. Distinctive features of these vehicles include locked differentials for all wheels, lowered gear ratios to improve steering, eight-cylinder petrol engines with nitrous systems, sand drag tires, and adjustable suspensions for varying terrains. A roll cage is also mandatory for safety. This unique motorsport takes place in closed areas like rock mines, outside towns, using makeshift tracks marked by old tires, flags or sticks. Prior to the event, drivers are guided through the course by a marshal who explains the layout and driving instructions.
