This subspecies of Asian black bear is unique to Taiwan and features distinctive V-shaped markings on its chest. I created this design because of a heartbreaking incident involving Formosan black bears that occurred in Taiwan. A female bear named "Mini Three" was living at Taipei Zoo, but it lost its right front leg after being caught by a trap. The zoo named the bear "Mini Three" due to its three remaining legs. Tragically, Mini Three was loaned to Kaohsiung Shoushan Zoo, where it met an untimely demise in December 2013 at the hands of another black bear. The zoo kept this unfortunate news under wraps for a month before finally releasing it to the public. This incident left me deeply saddened, and I designed this bear as a tribute to its memory.
