I was fed up with the stock control box fans being excessively loud. My printers are located in my home office, which also happens to be where I watch TV, and turning up the volume would have been a necessity. Since 50mm fans like the original ones are hard to find in general, not to mention the right voltage and quietness, I decided to replace the entire cover and swap out the two fans for a single 80mm one. The fan I found is a Noctua NF-R8, rated at an impressive 17dB. I could have gone even quieter, but this was a decent price and honestly, my steppers are louder anyway. A voltage regulator is necessary because sourcing a quiet 24V fan proved to be extremely challenging. Just make sure to adjust the output voltage with the onboard trimpot before connecting your fan! I used my variable bench supply to set it up, but you could also hook it up to the Formbot - just be careful. The screws on the back fit perfectly, but the two screws on the fan side need to be replaced with a 20mm M3 to fit through the thicker cover. Thanks to this modification, my home office is now much quieter. My wife is much happier as well!
