Fork Cork inspired steerer tube plug
thingiverse
Living in China presented me with an immediate challenge: finding a supplier for the elusive "Fork Cork". Unable to locate one, I decided to take matters into my own hands and created a custom design for the underside of my Rockshox Pike steerer tube. So far, it has performed beautifully. To ensure its longevity, I opted to print both the top and bottom components using PETG, which boasts impressive durability and weather resistance properties. The middle/wedge part, however, required something more flexible - I chose a TPU material that would allow for a snug fit without compromising on flexibility. My design is tailored specifically for an M6 bolt and 10mm nut, providing a secure and precise fit. While the durability of this setup still remains to be seen, one thing is certain: over-tightening the bolt will undoubtedly result in cracked caps. To avoid this, I plan to ensure that the wedge is soft enough to provide a snug fit without requiring excessive force. Once complete, my goal is to pack it with lightweight essentials and forget about it - a veritable treasure trove of emergency supplies waiting to be called upon in a pinch: cash, patch kits, tire boots, quick-links, nitrile gloves, and more.
