Fore Abbey - Nave Figure
sketchfab
The original church was built with a nave featuring projecting antae and a linteled west door, but most of its east wall was dismantled to create the chancel arch. A distinctive pointed arch made of pink sandstone stands tall, unadorned except for a small carved figure situated on the lowermost springing stone of the north side facing into the nave. The figure is seated with hands resting on knees and boasts a large round head with bulging eyes; legs are crossed at the ankles and it wears a belted knee-length tunic. A tongue protrudes from its mouth, characteristic of marginal carving style figures.
