The Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, also known as the Paulista War or Brazilian Civil War, was a major uprising by the population of São Paulo against Getúlio Vargas' 1930 coup d'état. The movement grew out of resentment towards Vargas' rule by decree, which ignored the Constitution. Vargas had taken power with military and political backing from Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, and Paraíba. He had also prevented the inauguration of Júlio Prestes as governor of São Paulo in 1930, while overthrowing President Washington Luís, who was a popular leader. These events marked the end of the First Republic. The São Paulo rebels created an armored vehicle for their civil guard, which was made of steel and riveted with four Hotchkiss machine guns. It had cast iron wheels and moved at an average speed of 10.9 km/h. The vehicle had a wooden floor and one entrance door at the rear. Its colors were gray and green. The armored car served as a psychological motivator for many, symbolizing innovation and boldness. However, it was not a practical vehicle.
