Ford Focus bonnet drive assembly
thingiverse
Complete bonnet drive assembly - join balls and extension rods together. You can insert a spring into the assembly to push the extension rods apart and create pressure on the ball joints. Make sure it's appropriately long (maximum compression at intended insertion distance) or simply clip it if it's excessively stiff. SLA printers can print out parts positioned upright using normal clearance models. FDM printers can also print horizontally as well as vertically with supports, generating a buttress wall around the thinner piece. Use maximum walls or 100% infill (the former is preferred). If your printer produces blobby prints and normal clearance parts don't fit together, use extra clearance models adding 0.15mm of clearance in addition to 0.25mm default clearance for a total of 0.4mm clearance between all contacting parts. You can also try combining normal clearance balls with extra clearance shafts. The extension shafts should easily slide together but if they don't, sand the internal rod (especially the corners) until they fit. Don't sand the fork. When using PLA, take care when inserting the ball joint into the fork - it's extremely brittle and may break easily. Use a hair dryer to soften the fork, insert the ball, and gently push the fork pins against the ball groove until it cools down.
