The somewhat inadequate center console shelf in my '15 Ford Focus was a major point of contention, being far too shallow for my liking and also failing to provide easy access to a pen when needed. To address these issues, I designed a deeper shelf that could seamlessly replace the factory one, while also incorporating a sturdy shaft in one corner to securely hold a pen without taking up excessive space. To achieve maximum modularity, I constructed each component independently so that if one piece were to break, only that single element would need to be reprinted. This design choice also significantly simplified the printing process by eliminating the need for supports or complicated angles. The base of the pen shaft is engineered with a precise fit, but to ensure added security, I chose to super glue it in place, given my initial use of PLA and concerns about its potential lack of durability under hot summer temperatures (PETG may ultimately prove to be a more suitable choice). Update: I have since integrated version 7 of the Center Console pen shaft into the design, replacing the earlier version 5 and base STLs. This revised model features an open bottom, allowing for printing without supports.
