I broke my 2012 F-150's original latch and remade it with narrower pins for easier installation, also removing the 3D printed spring part and reinforcing the pins instead. This was still a very tight fit, so you might need to sand down the pins even shorter. If it breaks in the future, I may modify it again. A paper clip spring will work as a replacement, but if you have the original spring, use that one. Check out this YouTube video for a how-to on installing the latch - I don't own this content.
