Force RC F-18 Nose
thingiverse
I tried remixing Habendanio's FPV nose without the camera mount and it turned out okay. The thingiverse link to the original design is https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2972069. I printed it with PLA and it was slightly too big, but still worked fine. Printing at 95% might fix this issue, but I didn't try that. I tested three different print settings for this project and here are the ones that worked best: The picture shows the PLA part mounted on a plane. The color isn't quite right, but you can buy Testors blue paint to match the Blue Angels team. Next to the plane are one of the TPU parts and the original design. The original nose weighs 3 grams. Here are my print settings for PLA: * I printed only one shell layer to keep weight down. * The infill was set at 5% to save even more weight. * A raft was necessary to ensure good build plate adhesion. * Supports were also needed, especially for the tip of the nose. This setting resulted in a part that weighs 15 grams. I also tried printing with TPU: Method 1: Thicker and heavier * I used one shell layer again. * The infill was still at 5% to save weight. * A raft was necessary, just like before. * Supports were needed as well. This method worked okay, but the part was softer than the PLA version. It wasn't much lighter either. Method 2: One shell * I used one shell layer again. * This time, I set the infill to 0% to make it even lighter. * A raft was necessary, just like before. * Supports were needed as well. This method resulted in a very lightweight part that weighed only 5 grams. However, it was also quite soft and might deform in flight, affecting aerodynamics. In all cases, I printed with a height of 0.1 to make the part look better. You can try printing at 0.2 if you prefer. One option is to print with PET, but I only have white paint for this material.
