Forbidden Planet Blaster
thingiverse
The 1956 sci-fi film, Forbidden Planet, showcased a blaster prop that has been disassembled into individual parts for 3D printing on devices such as the Thing-o-matic or similar small build platforms. Primarily snapped together, the design was created using OpenSCAD. Instructions to print one part at a time are provided, with a few clarifications: bolt1 attaches through body_1's small hole to dial for free movement, body_1 snaps onto body_2, joint_1 connects body_2 and body_3, joint_2 links body_3, body_4, and body_5, barrel_connector joins joint_2 and barrel_1. Due to tight tolerances, some sanding may be necessary. The grip can house a small button switch behind the trigger with wires concealed within the body. An LED in a translucent PLA barrel creates a visually appealing glow effect.
