The filament stepper motor on my UP3D Mini gets extremely hot and when printing with PLA, this excessive heat can cause the gear in the feeder mechanism that feeds the filament into the nozzle to start slipping, leading potentially to a stripped gear if not addressed promptly. I created this custom cooling device specifically to fit around the motor from both sides, ensuring full visibility of its operation. By securing a small heatsink directly onto one side facing the door and applying thermal paste to bond it firmly with adhesive strip on all other edges, I've effectively insulated the critical area. My cooling system relies on a powerful 40mm fan readily available in conjunction with this heat sink from Maplins locally for just a few pounds. The air-intake is designed such that it pulls cool air across the motor and attached heatsink while directing warm air away towards the open printer door. I carefully took the necessary voltage (12 volts) to power my motor fan from the very same connector utilized for original cooling fan opposite the print head without any disruption to operation. Sufficient distance between mounting location of this new fan system and stepper motor prevents magnetic conflicts that may interfere with normal printer function. Overall, this cooler yields a truly excellent heat dissipating performance. Instructions Only one simple STL file is required; simply print it upright with the 'chimney' section downwards in order to minimize usage of filament.
