Footy RC sailboat ballast plug and mold and storage case
thingiverse
I designed a plug and mold for an RC Footy sailboat ballast bulb based on the designs for a US1M class boat. These files are intended to be CNC milled in aluminum, but you can print them as well to use as plugs for making molds. The relevant dimensions are in the above picture if you want to start from scratch. All files and dimension are in inches and pounds. You can customize the weight by pouring less lead into the mold or drilling out excess. The metric weight is about 308 grams when assembled. The bulb is to be poured in two halves, then epoxied together. Use auto body filler as needed. Machine out the slot for your fin and glue the bulb and fin together. This bulb has a elliptical cross section, so be mindful of that. This is not designed for any Footy in particular. It is just a generic starting place. I decided to make a case for my mold as well to protect it from damage when not in use. You may have to resize this box to fit your milling stock. You can follow along here. The Footy stuff happens about halfway down the page.. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?4080263-Learning-to-cast-a-sailboat-bulb-in-7-000-easy-steps-an-epic-tale-and-tutorial/page4
