Food or Water Dish for a Bird Cage

Food or Water Dish for a Bird Cage

thingiverse

My pet bird is a chewing machine, capable of destroying books, beak stones, and perches with ease! Unfortunately, my bird's taste buds have developed a fondness for the odd-shaped food and water dish that no one seems to sell replacements for. As I watch it destroy its current dish, I decided to make my own replacement and share the results. The design features thick walls to discourage chewing and add strength, preventing breakage. However, be cautious when selecting the plastic type for your bird's safety. ABS plastic is commonly used, but ensure you choose a food-safe grade, as some grades are not safe for consumption. Additionally, homebrew 3D printers may leave small gaps that can harbor bacteria, so applying a food-safe sealant is recommended. Scaling and enabling support material in your printer settings will be necessary. Cleaning the printed model thoroughly by sanding and possibly heat brazing to ensure a smooth surface is essential for bird safety. Print the model with ABS plastic using specific slicer settings for optimal results, ensuring a watertight seal for the water bowl and reducing choking hazards from broken pieces. The recommended slicer settings include layer height, perimeters, infill density, fill angle, speed, support material, and filament/temperature settings.
