Fontana di Pianoscarano - Viterbo Italy
sketchfab
The historic fountain of Pianoscarano was erected to supersede the original structure that suffered a catastrophic fate at the hands of Pope Urbano V in 1376. This unfortunate event was precipitated by an incident involving the papal party's return from Avignon, where a local woman took issue with a cardinal's servant who dared to bathe his dog in the fountain, thereby contaminating the potable water. A violent confrontation ensued, resulting in the woman's untimely demise, and the pope subsequently exacted retribution on the locals by demolishing their cherished fountain. In response, the present fountain of Pianoscarano was built in 1376 to reclaim its rightful place as a testament to Viterbo's rich heritage. This majestic fountain is further adorned with regal lions, an enduring symbol of the city's proud legacy. 42.412641, 12.103559 107 photographs captured - 35mm lens utilized for photogrammetry
