One of two keystone bosses over the choir stalls showcases original, intricately painted decoration dating back to around 1200 AD (also see skfb.ly/6TQ8X). Accessible scaffolding allowed Arte Conservation Ltd to conduct a thorough investigation during repairs to the vaulting masonry in 2020. Early blue pigment still prevails on this boss, while red lead pigment remains visible within the recessed roundels. Small black spots are also visible between the dog-tooth of the transverse ribs. The plainer diagonal ribs feature bold bands of yellow ochre and black lines. Fragments of a single-line red masonry design survive in areas of the vault webbing beneath the later limewashes. A stunning reconstruction is available at: skfb.ly/6TXOW
