I was never really satisfied with the x-axis on this printer and was getting a lot of ringing because of its lack of stiffness. The idea to use the open-builds v-wheel system for my x-axis came from Sonny Lowe, which really caught my attention. I wanted to use the E3D titan extruder but with it directly attached to the front of the axis, it took away from my z-height significantly. To get around this, I decided to move the carriage to the top of the axis instead of having it directly in front. Doing it this way got me from ~150mm z height to now ~180mm z height. This setup also puts the weight of the extruder more directly over the v-rail, which I believe is a better idea. I have been using a tiny 13oz/in stepper for the extruder which has worked excellent so far due to the gear ratio of the Titan extruder. I have attached plenty of pictures so hopefully it will not be too difficult to figure out how to put together. I decided to use printed couplers for the acme rods, which have been working great so far. Also, I have used thread inserts for the z nuts, which I got from McMaster Carr. They are heat set inserts for plastic, so just heat them up with a soldering iron and press them in. The diameter of the spool holder is 51mm and was designed for Esun petg rolls. I can also upload different sizes depending on what the needs are. Any questions, just ask!
