Folgertech FT-5 R1 Single Motor Z axis
thingiverse
Just like many FT-5 owners, I have had the same old problem with the Z motors getting out of sync. I was going to do the sync belt mod that many have come up with, but decided to go a different route. This is a no-frills, eyeball type mod. No plans, measurement or anything of the like. Since Folgertech is now selling the R2 model, they have made available parts for the new model, including the long belt and idler pulleys for the Z axis. Belt here: https://folgertech.com/collections/beltandpulleys/products/987-gt2-6mm-belt-loop Idlers here (need 2): https://folgertech.com/products/idler-pulley-for-gt2-belt Also need, two M5 x 30 mm all-thread bolts, four nylon lock nuts, eight five millimeter flat washers, a five millimeter drill bit, and a five millimeter hole center punch. One: Remove the lead screws for the Z axis. Two: Place the belt around the screws and reinstall. Three: Remove the motor you are not going to use; I simply unplugged mine and left the harness. Four: Guess where the idlers will go. Also, do not drill into your motor or wiring; it's probably best to drill with the printer on its side so you can see everything. Five: Install a bolt, washer under head, then wash under lock nut, lock in place, then washer on top of nut, place idler, another washer, then another lock nut. Tighten till snug, back off till the pulley spins free. Six: Level up the bed, lock everything down, and go printing. It took me about an hour goofing off, re-leveled my bed, and went right to printing, so all good! Remember, your mileage may vary. DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if you drill into your motor or your finger. I hope this helps someone. p.s. The cover is for a Hummingbird Fish Finder, PiranhaMax 4.
