FolgerTech 2020 i3 Y Axis Belt Holder and Tensioner
thingiverse
The original FolgerTech Y-axis belt holder didn't line up very well with the idler and motor. I redesigned FolgerTech's design, adding the ability to adjust Y-belt tension. Changes: I added material between the "teeth" that engage the belt for increased strength. The belt is now lowered away from the bed several millimeters to bring it closer in line with the motor and idler. This holder has been separated into two pieces so that the belt can be assembled with a convenient amount of slack, yet still have adjustable tension when fully assembled. Adjustment is a bit annoying since it can be awkward to get the hex wrench on the adjustment screw. However, this does not need to be done very often, making it an acceptable trade-off for adjustability. Installation: Install this in place of the FolgerTech version, placing the red end towards the rear of the printer. Install an M3 nylock nut in the red part and a long M3 socket head cap screw and washer in the green part. Bolt the green part to the bed plate, but leave the red part free for now. Push each end of the belt into the mount ends and route the belt around the motor pulley and idler. Bring the red end of the mount and screw the adjuster in a couple of threads. Squeeze the mount parts together to verify that you have just the right amount of slack. If necessary, move the belt on the mount so that you have enough slack to allow the adjuster screw to thread into the nylock, but not so much that you run out of adjustment. Then simply tighten the belt to tension and re-adjust after making a few prints to ensure good belt tension.
