The stock cooling for the FT-5 is severely lacking AND excessively loud. To bring my printer close to complete silence while significantly reducing temperatures for both the stepper drivers and the power supply, I devised a solution. Print two of these components, allowing them to overlap slightly; this results in their thin design. Install M5x10 bolts and t-nuts as you would on the stock back plate. Install 2 120mm fans - one pushing air out and the other pulling it in. If desired, remove the top case of the power supply and its fan, but exercise caution to avoid exposure to hazardous voltages. Utilizing standard 12-volt fans and an adjustable voltage regulator board allowed me to achieve the desired fan speed. This modification, combined with waterott TMC2100's, has resulted in a remarkably quiet printer during operation and near silence at idle.
