Folding Shoji Screen 1:12 Scale

Folding Shoji Screen 1:12 Scale

thingiverse

This is a 1:12 scale model of a Japanese Shoji Folding Screen panel. Normally you would have 3 or more panel's fastened together with hinges so they can fold up for storage, or by alternately angling the panels, it will stand up on it's own when opened. I have only provided one panel, and you will have to add the paper or background material to the back of it to complete the panel. Because of size and the difficulty of making inconspicuous 3D printed hinges in place at this scale, I have not included hinges. My recommendation is to print at least 3 panels and then to take a single piece of fabric or rice paper to glue across all the panels on the back side. This will serve to provide the screen fabric, and a built in hinge to help it stand upright. Another fun opportunity would be to take a lithophane of your choice and cut it to fit behind the panels instead of paper or fabric. Then glue a bit of fabric between panels for a hinge. Design is taken from Woodsmith Issue 57.
