Folding Box Printer Calibration Cube
myminifactory
The Calibration Cube is a precision tool designed for testing and benchmarking 3D printers, as well as fine-tuning print settings. Print without supports to see what your printer can do and where it needs improvement. The cube's design is based on the Protolabs injection molded folding box. Need advice on your print? Upload a photo to the comments section of this page or tag me (@piraxchild) on Twitter, and the 3D printing community will help you troubleshoot the cube to improve your prints. I've encountered several issues with various printers, including: On my Creality CR10, I experienced tight tolerances. To fix it, I adjusted the bed, lowered the x/y speed in Slic3r, increased the first layer extrusion height to 115% and width to 95%. Minor surface pillowing or lifting on the first layer was also an issue. Adjusting the bed and increasing the first layer extrusion height to 115% and width to 95% resolved this problem. Small features were another challenge. I fixed it by lowering the Minimum extrusion length, increasing perimeter overlap, and changing the thinwall type to single extrusion fill. Retraction issues were addressed in Slic3r by enabling wipe nozzle, minimum travel, retraction during wipe movement, and avoiding crossing outlines. Retract over open spaces was turned off. Ringing and vibration problems were solved by tightening the screws on the extruder carriage and reducing x/y speed movement in Slic3r. On my Wanhao Duplicator I3, unexplained underextrusion was a problem. Lowering the x/y/z speed movement in Slic3r fixed this issue, as did dropping fan speed from 100% to 75%. A previously installed fan upgrade had caused nozzle temperature fluctuations. The Powerspec Ultra also suffered from unexplained underextrusion. Again, lowering the x/y/z speed movement in Slic3r resolved the problem. On my Raise3D printer, small features were another issue. Lowering the Minimum extrusion length and increasing perimeter overlap fixed this problem.
