Folded Hem Attachment for Sewing Machines

Folded Hem Attachment for Sewing Machines

I needed to sew a bunch of folded hems on my DIY hammocks and outdoor gear. Some materials are tough to iron and can't be pinned, which made things tricky. I created this folded hemmer attachment to help out with that problem. When I first designed it, I didn't have any presser foot that fit my old but reliable Singer 201K, so I was happy when I finally got a bunch of them and found the printed ones easier to use. I can easily customize the hem width, guide channel length, mounting hole position, and other settings on this attachment to fit just about any sewing machine. The default values work perfectly for my Singer 201K, 670G, and I've also made one that fits my Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116. Taping the hemmer to the machine is a simple solution, so I don't worry too much about having mounting holes. I tried out a funnel-like opening on the guide channel, but it turns out I don't need it - it still works great without it. I've used this attachment successfully for several projects, and I'm sure there's room for improvement. If you make one for your sewing machine, please post the coordinates for the holes in the comments section so we can all benefit from it.
