Folded granulite

This folded specimen plays a prominent role in the display collection at Earth Sciences, located at The University of Newcastle. Its exact origin remains unclear, but evidence suggests that it has undergone significant metamorphic changes under high-grade conditions (upper amphibolite facies). Small granitic veins embedded within the specimen indicate that incipient melting occurred during its formation. A scalebar is conveniently positioned on the reverse side of the specimen for easy reference.
