Foldable CNC
thingiverse
This is project of Foldable CNC mill. The idea was to make CNC machine with fully adjustable workspace. You can put it on your table in kitchen and make some ornaments on corners or hang it on your front door and engrave your house address. Then, when you finish your work, you can easily disassemble it and forget that you need extra space for a big and heavy CNC machine. What you need to build it: 2x gate_holder.stl 2x main_gate_holder.stl 2x cover_slider_Y.stl 1x main_slider_Y.stl 1x main_slider_Y_MiR.stl 1x XZ_cross.stl 1x SliderX_1.stl 2x Slider_Z.stl 1x Z_spindle_holder.stl 1x Z_engine_holder_stl 2x butterfly.stl 4x support.stl Depending on your spindle, you will need one of these: - Verto 135W hand mill like me Spindle holder part has many holes. It can be used with different spindles, lasers or extruders. You will also need: 5 meters of pipe (25mm x 1mm) 300 millimeters of M6 threaded rod 36 pieces of 626zz ball bearing (6x19x6) 6 pieces of 624zz ball bearing (4x13x5) for tooth belt 2 pieces of F6-14M thrust bearing (6x14x5) for Z axis 3.5 meters of GT2 6mm tooth belt 3 GT2 20 tooth pulleys 4 stepper motors (0.5Nm with 5mm shaft) 1 CNC shaft coupler (5mm/6mm) 4 small bar clamps Screws: - Cylindrical: 12x M6 x 20, 8x M6 x 30, 4x M6 x 40, 8x M6 x 45, 2x M5 x 15, 4x M5 x 20, 4x M5 x 25, 8x M5 x 35, 2x M5 x 40, 2x M5 x 45, 4x M5 x 50, 4x M5 x 60 - Hex socket head: Small Philips head: Hex head: 33x M6 nuts 32x M5 nuts 6x M4 nuts I had issues with main gate holders slipping and used sandpaper on small parts of the holder. To lock tooth belt, I cut plastic clamps. I used GRBL with Arduino nano and 3 StepSticks to drive my machine. Here is a video from tests: https://youtu.be/5AQQKVzxxB0 February 8, 2016 I updated Z_spindle_holder.stl - it is more rigid now! March 30, 2017 There are many questions about redesigning parts to fit your own machine. I decided to share Inventor project on Google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-ExPzdxcHOwV0o4eWRkbkVDdXc?usp=sharing
