The Fokker F-27 is a twin-engine turboprop commercial passenger aircraft designed by Fokker in 1950 and debuted in November 1955 with Hugo Burgerhout as pilot. Its tail-heavy design necessitated modifications, resulting in a fuselage extension and increased seating capacity. Manufactured from 1958 to 1987, over 900 Fokker F-27s and their US-built counterparts, Fairchild Hiller FH-227s, were produced. Many were later converted for cargo use by companies like FEDEX but have since been retired. The F-27's success led to the development of the Fairchild Hiller 227 and inspired further developments in the form of Fokker F-50 and F-60 series aircraft.
