Originally designed by Fokker in 1950, the twin-engine turbo-prop commercial airliner had its maiden flight in November 1955. Due to tail heaviness, it underwent modifications and an extension that added three seats. Manufactured from 1958 to 1987, over 900 Fokker F-27s and FH-227s were built. After serving as passenger planes, many were repurposed for cargo or express package services like FEDEX. However, all retired by 2009, leaving only a few in service today. The F-27's legacy led to the development of the Fairchild Hiller 227, and eventually, the Fokker F-50 and F-60 series.
