The Fokker DVII, designed by Reinhold Platz for Germany's Luftwaffe, was considered the best World War I fighter plane. Over 3,300 were produced before the war ended in 1918; it boasted speeds of up to 124 mph and outmaneuvered most allied fighters. Its design emerged from a competition involving top German pilots who tested and recommended the aircraft. Manfred von Richthofen, the 'Red Baron', was initially skeptical but later endorsed it after modifications. The DVII's robust structure, ease of handling, and difficult target profile made it a significant factor in WWI air warfare. After the war, Germany surrendered these planes to Allies who continued using them into the 1930s globally. The US Army Signal Corps utilized Fokker DVIIs for mail delivery in the 1920s. Detailed both externally and internally, this model features animateable parts like landing gear, rudder, ailerons, cockpit controls, propeller, and a highly-detailed Mercedes engine.
