Fog Machine for Tabletop Gaming
thingiverse
I swapped out my rickety old fog machine built from 4 inch PVC pipe fittings for Wartoaster's design. But I encountered problems with the ultrasonic mister spraying out of the vent. This new design eliminates splashing by incorporating an internal baffle that seems to have effectively resolved that issue. Still, some moisture accumulation occurs on the play surface due to water vapor but it builds up at a slower rate. Like Wartoaster's design, this print uses a 40mm PC case fan and the same ultrasonic mist module. Unlike Wartoaster's design, the tank doesn't require supports because the vent holds itself (However, the lid does need supports and should be printed upside down). The tank is also slightly larger, and the baffle is designed to return splashed water to the tank. The lid fits snugly into the top of the tank, and between the weight of the fan and cables, it's very stable. I haven't put it through any performance tests but a half cup (120ml) of water generates a good amount of mist for quite a while. The "gate" for the fan is optional. The gate can be attached to the fan with M3-20 bolts and nuts, and theoretically to the lid itself with M3-25 bolts with or without nuts underneath the fan. If your play surface or minis are absorbent or painted with water-soluble paint, water vapor is still water, and using a water-based fog machine may damage them.
