To achieve optimal illumination with a single, centralized point of light from the hot-end's supply source, I established identical holes for each LED that converge at a central point positioned at the center of the ring, approximately 10mm beneath it. In order to minimize power wastage and reduce heat dissipation through a resistor, I deliberately chose to connect the LEDs in series rather than parallel, as depicted in the accompanying second image. Each white LED has a characteristic dropout voltage of 2.6v, whereas the entire set boasts a unified dropout voltage of 10.4v. The collective current rating is roughly 20mA. Given this configuration, it is essential to calculate the appropriate resistor value necessary to regulate 12v to an optimal 10.4v, with the existing 20mA current flow. The determined value for such a resistor turns out to be approximately 100 ohms, thus significantly minimizing power dissipation in the process. Conversely, utilizing standard color LEDs instead results in an impressively smaller dropout voltage of roughly 1.4v per LED. To maintain this efficiency, it becomes crucial to recalibrate and adjust the resistor value accordingly, based on the newly calculated overall dropout voltage for each distinct configuration.
