Foam Cutter
thingiverse
Phlatprinter-inspired foam cutter machine for light-weight tools such as needle-cutter, laser, pen/marker, drag-knife, etc. Constructed from inexpensive construction materials like 3/4" EMT, window-screen frame, 5/16" machine nuts/bolts, etc., and printed parts similar to MPCNC. Sized for 30" x 20" DollarTree foam board (DTFB) commonly used in RC foam aircraft construction... other sizes can be accommodated with a suitable frame. The X-axis is belt-driven with a compact carriage that features a lead-screw driven Z-axis. The Y-axis uses rack and pinion drive... slaved tractors that engage racks affixed to the edges of a frame that carries the material being cut. Range of motion X and Y (no Z) demo can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIo1_tOVjw8&feature=youtu.be Cutting foam can be seen in action at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOJEtzwagmc and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1Eittucc7I. Build and construction details are available on my thread on the FliteTest forum: http://forum.flitetest.com/showthread.php?24251-Cutting-foam-sheets-with-a-needle.
