Flywheel Toy Car

Inspired by gzumwalt's popular PLA spring car and Kikkerland's zecar toy, this toy car has a flywheel loaded with 45-50 pennies for added stability. Push the car to accelerate the flywheel to speed, then it will keep rolling straight, powered by sufficient torque to overcome small obstacles. All parts snap or wedge together seamlessly, using only pennies and rubber bands as assembly components. I dedicated significant time to perfecting every part, refining them at least once for optimal performance. I hope you enjoy this creation. See Instructions for a complete guide. Instructions GENERAL TIPS... Be cautious with your fingers; this device has gears generating high torque levels. Although the roof is not required, it's recommended if children will be playing with it to add an extra layer of safety and stability. Wrap 1-2 rubber bands around each rear wheel - this is crucial for proper functionality. Additionally, ensure all pivots and shafts are lubricated and can spin freely, which will greatly enhance the car's performance. I printed the car once using ABS material and again with PLA. The ABS version seemed to work better, possibly due to its higher melting point preventing it from overheating and becoming sticky on the fast-spinning flywheel pivot. It's worth noting that pennies minted before 1982 weigh slightly more than those minted after (3 grams vs. 2.5 grams). For optimal performance, evenly distribute both types of pennies in the flywheel or use only one type. PRINTING TIPS... No prints require supports; slopes above 45 degrees are minimal and easy to manage. When printing the roof, it's essential to use a brim to prevent warping. Also, keep heated beds at maximum temperature to avoid the roof from tilting or falling over. Print all pins and axles with three perimeters and a high infill amount for added strength and durability.
