FLYNN's NEON Sign
thingiverse
I created a replica of the iconic neon sign from Flynn's arcade in the movie Tron, using EL wire to recreate the look and feel of this futuristic marvel. I designed it specifically for my own arcade machine, but you can also use it to decorate your game room or add a finishing touch to your pinball machine. Instructions: I based the design on 3.2mm EL wire, although it should also work with 2.6mm wire without any issues. Simply print each letter individually using your preferred settings; I found that a resolution of around 0.3mm worked best for me. However, you may need to adjust this depending on your specific printer and preferences. When printing the curved frame, be prepared to split it according to the size of your print bed. You'll need three separate pieces, which are held together using support bars that I've provided in different types to give you maximum flexibility. Depending on how you split the curved bar and how you choose to mount the sign, you can mix and match these support bars for a custom fit. For the assembly process, you have two options depending on your material choice: either use a modified glue gun method to weld the PLA pieces together, or go with ABS and simply apply adhesive. For the EL wire component, cut each piece separately and solder them onto the back of each letter using copper tape. Connect all the letters together, then link them to an inverter rated for 10-15 meters of EL wire. Be gentle when inserting the EL wire into its clips as they can be a bit tight.
