Flying Scotsman 60103 N Scale (Not powered)
thingiverse
For those who've been following along, you'll be pleased to know that this build has come together without the full story being told, unlike my previous build. Hopefully, I've learned from past struggles and there will be fewer issues with this one. Designed to be pushed by a carriage with a powered chassis, it's because no suitable powered chassis was found for this magnificent loco. Screenshots of the model and instructions have been uploaded since Thingiverse has been reluctant to show STLs recently. The same device used in my previous S160 build has been employed here so that wheels will spin freely and adjust smoothly when turning corners. This involves a bushing made from 4mm plastic tubing, cut into 4mm lengths and split with a removal of a 0.5mm slice. A screenshot shows the wheel/axle assembly using this solution, which is also needed for larger drive wheels. This system allows wheels to drift slightly in their housings, necessary when a long line of wheels goes around corners if they're not on bogies. The reasons being, resin doesn't freely glide against itself or Peco wheels, and a means of holding axles in place was required. Some embellishments may follow, but new add-on STLs will be created to avoid annoying people with changes.
