This is a custom flying extruder designed for high-performance use with 23mm NEMA17 pancake motors, like those from Zyltech. If you're using a standard extruder motor, choose that one instead. I built this specific design to work seamlessly with gear-reduced dual-drive (Bondtech BMG clone) extruders, making the stock motor unnecessary and inefficient. The 3mm cap-screw mounting system for surgical tubing (secured with zip ties) and mini-bungie cords is a key feature of this design. The positioning of the holes for bungies or other types of tensioning devices was carefully planned to distribute mass evenly among the three carriages, minimizing stress on any one part. Using the recommended mini-bungie cords might result in a slightly loose rear bungie, but tying a knot behind the metal hook easily resolves this issue. Due to the motor's lightweight design, I removed the counterweight and bridge attachment points, as they were no longer needed. After installing this flying extruder setup, I was able to significantly reduce my retraction distance, down to 0.4mm with a 1.9mm ID bowden tube, and eventually even lower it further. The cube in the images was printed using 3D Solutech See Through Blue PETG filament. This custom flying extruder setup and corner reinforcements were the primary factors contributing to its successful print.
