Flying Disc Can Topper
thingiverse
I was inspired by a can topper disc I got at the Discraft Ace Race. This rim shape turned out to be my favorite so far, but there's definitely room for more experimentation. Unfortunately, it doesn't make a great catch disc since it starts turning left when thrown indoors with moderate power. You can even add your own custom design on top of the disc - I'm still figuring out the perfect depth, but using supports and a 3-4 mm thickness has given me some promising results so far. Some support types in Cura create more interesting patterns than others, which is kind of cool. So far, it seems to be watertight, but I have my doubts about its durability when made with PLA. Plus, there are potential health concerns to consider - please check out this link for some info: https://reprage.com/post/36869678168/is-3d-printed-pla-food-safe. If I decide to keep working on this project, I'm thinking of experimenting with coatings and varnishes to see how they affect the durability. Polyurethane is often recommended online as a good option for this kind of thing.
