Fluval Spec V Media Basket
thingiverse
This is a media basket designed specifically for the popular 5-gallon Fluval Spec V tank. While the stock filter insert that comes with this tank leaves much to be desired, I'm thrilled to share my first-ever design with you, despite having zero experience with CAD software prior to creating this project. Please forgive any imperfections in the holes and shelves – I'm still learning the ropes and have a lot to discover about what CAD can do. Version A of the main body doesn't include a support structure, which proved to be an issue when I printed it, causing some deformation that needed to be addressed. To resolve this problem, Version B includes an additional bar on top to prevent similar issues from arising in the future. Users have the option to either keep the bar after printing or simply cut it off, as I did. When printing the main body for the grooves where the slider fits, I didn't use support structures, which led to some loose strings that needed to be cleaned out afterwards. In hindsight, using support would likely be a good idea to avoid this issue in the future. Both Version A and Version B offer three shelf positions, allowing users to customize the size of their media compartments based on their specific needs. Typically, two shelves are sufficient for separating the Mechanical/Biological/Chemical filtration sections – Mech/Bio/Polish being my particular setup. For printing purposes, I used PETG, but PLA should also work just fine. To complete this project, you'll need to print: 1x FluvalSpecVMediaBasket-MainBody (VerA or VerB) 1x FluvalSpecVMediaBasket-FrontSlider 2x FluvalSpecVMediaBasket-Shelf
