Fluval Flex Aquarium Cooling Fan 40mm
prusaprinters

After I bought a Fluval Flex 35l/9g (okay... just because it looked nice) I quickly noticed some flaws and / or opportunities to tinker :-)

So I started to redesign and add some things. This is Part 1 of the project.
Part 1.1 has a 80mm fan (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3671625)

The whole project will cover cooling, heating, light control, water refill (and whatever idea I will have in addition) using an ESP micro controller and without any destructive modifications at the tank hardware.

I wasn't happy with this opening in the lid without any way to close it (apparently for feeding). And in addition the LED in the lid becomes quite warm and heats up the water pretty quickly:

So I designed a cooling fan adapter for this which stays in place without any screws/clips/glue.
I am using a 5V 40mm Noctua fan to coll my tank (controlled by an ESP8266 and temperature reading from a DS18x20 sensor - I will publish a mount for the sensor soon)
I went with the Noctua because it is quiet and it normally doesn't need much to cool the water)

for fixing the fan to the adapter you'll need 4x M3x12mm screws. The holes in the adapter are 2.8mm and the screws will self-cutting their threads when inserted first time.

please keep in mind: the cooling effect is better with the fan mounted to suck the air from the surface and blow it outside - but more water will evaporate in a shorter period of time

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

i3 MK3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.15 / 0.2

Infill:

7%

Filament:
PETG PETG n/a

Category: Hobby
