Received a Fluval Edge 6.6 gallon tank and immediately noticed the top venting plate was extremely rusty, so I decided to replace it right away. To remove the painted steel grate on top, I carefully cut a 1" tall T in the grate from the center of one edge using a precise technique. Then, I used some pliers to begin pulling the grate out slowly but surely, taking care not to apply too much pressure due to the excessive glue holding it in place. Once I had it started, the grate peeled up fairly easily, allowing me to access the area underneath. After that, I decided I didn't like the lighting system in there at all, so I removed the lighting arm by unscrewing 4 screws and replaced it with 90 5050 LEDs (warm white strip) that can be run in either 40% or 100% mode. The switch on top of plate controls my lights, and to do this, I had to remove the ridge inside the plate hole that the old plate sat into carefully. Once removed, you can place one of the designs into the space with ease. Fluval Edge Insert: This is a drop-in replacement for the original grate. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how tall the lip was, so if someone wants to comment, I can modify it right away. Fluval Edge Insert Lipped: If you choose to remove inside ridge that contained the glue, this plate is a great option. It's 3mm thick and features an additional 3.25mm of lip to make sure it sits flush with the surrounding area. Fluval Edge Insert Lip Switch: This is a replacement for both the removed ridge AND wanting a switch. I used a switch I had lying around, and the hole fits a switch measuring 0.5" x 1.0625". It has a lip on it for the switch to snap into securely.
