FLSUN Titan Xcarrier

I assembled my FLSUN i3 2017 and wanted to install a Titan direct drive extruder, but the provided Xcarrier wasn't wide enough to mount the motor. I adjusted the dimensions of the Xcarrier and based the vertical segment off of the design found here: https://grabcad.com/library/e3d-titan-extruder-assembly-for-thk-linear-rail-1

It works for both the V6 and Volcano extruder. There might be some variation with how thick your bed is. One limitation is that your printer will lose about 10mm on the X print bed.

Also, I removed the X limit switch holes because I really like using Thing:2521758 limit switch support instead. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2521758

Revision / Edit

Modified the extruder bracket to eliminate interference issues, and reduce unnecessary structure. Increased the vertical supports on the Xcarrier for increased surface area to glue/weld to.

Print Settings

Printer:

FLSUN i3 2017

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Doesn't Matter

Resolution:

.2 Layer 3+walls

Infill:

At least 50%

Filament:
Amazon Basics PLA or PTEG

Notes:

I've printed a few iterations in PLA and PETG. Both work well. I prefer PETG because it seems a bit more robust and durable. It seems to do better with higher temperatures especially the fan shroud holds up being so close to the hot end. I was slightly concerned that the PETG would flex more than the PLA, but I think with thick walls and sufficient infill, I didn't notice any adverse flex during operation.
For joining the main two X carrier segments together, I used friction-welding which worked wonderfully.

Category: 3D Printer Parts
