FLSUN SR - LED Ring Light Mount

Description
The FLSUN SR is a delta printer featuring a relatively large build plate with a diameter of 260 mm and a printable height of 330 mm. This area is unlit however and therefore difficult to monitor the progress and quality of an ongoing print. Whilst there are a number of options for mounting LEDs to this printer, including via LED strip lights fastened to each axis, I decided to make use of the printers overall height (at 960 mm) and ample space on the top of the printer to mount a downward pointing light source. This mount has been designed to incorporate two 100 mm LED ring lights connected to a switch allowing them to be turned off during the day / at night when not required. It also included a channel to allow all wiring to be easily managed and hidden from view, maintaining the overall appearance of the printer. The mount can be secured to the printer using magnetic tape, cable ties or velcro according to preference. If using cable ties, the included slots can be used to feed the ties through. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Print Settings:
• Ensure the model is orientated as shown in the slicer image • Skirt - Yes • Skirt Line Count - 2 • Skirt Distance - 1 mm • Support - Yes • Support Placement - Touching Buildplate • Support Pattern - Lines • Support Wall Line Count - 0.1 • Enable Support Brim - Yes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What parts were used?
• 100MM COB LED Ring Light (12v) https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BF6GRXZ/ • Buck Converter (DC 3.0-40V to 1.5-35V) https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZCRTMXK • JST 2 Pin Male and Female Micro Connector https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07QMMC4WZ • High Knob 6 Pin 3 Position DPDT Panel Slide Switch https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008DFYHV2 • FLSUN Q5 / SR Buck Converter Tray https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4915466 You will also need the following tools: • Soldering Iron (and solder) • Wire Cutters • Heat Shrink • Voltmeter • Glue ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to install the lights?
Wire the Motherboard / Power Source: • Remove the top cover from the printer • Connect a female JST connector to the respective 24v IN terminals on the motherboard Wire the Buck Convertor • Solder a male JST connector to the respective positive / negative IN terminals • Solder a female JST connector to the respective positive / negative OUT terminals • Connect the male connector to the female connector on the mother board • Turn on the power to the printer • Adjust the screw until the voltmeter reads 12v • Turn off the printer Wire the Switch: • Solder one female JST connector to the centre pins of the 3-way switch This will be used to connect the switch to the buck convertor and provide the 12v power • Solder two female JST connectors to one of the outside pair of pins on the switch This will be used to connect the LED ring lights to the switch via a removable plug - you can opt to solder the wires included with the lights to the switch directly, however you will need to feed these through the frame first to allow them to be tucked into the top panel. • Feed the wires through the gap in the mount and push the switch in firmly. It is designed to be a press fit and does not require glue - if it is two tight, use a file to remove material until it fits. Wire the LED Ring Lights: • Place the LED ring lights into the appropriate space in the mount • Feed the wire through the gap at the back of the mount • Lift the ring light and apply a thin layer of glue to the mount • Press the ring light down to secure in place • Place heat shrink over each of the exposed wires • Solder a Male JST connector to the respective negative / positive wire • Guide the heat shrink over the exposed wire and heat until it is securely in place This step is important to prevent accidental shorting! • Repeat for the second ring light Mount the ring lights / mount to the printer • Connect each of the JST connectors to the appropriate counterpart connector • Use your preferred method and secure the mount to the top of the printer The mount includes a number of slots to allow cable ties to be inserted and used to secure it to the frame of the printer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important Notice!
Any modifications made to your printer are done so at your own risk!
