FLSUN Q5 Lay Down Filament Mount
thingiverse
I wanted to lower the CG of my Q5 because I didn't like the way that the spool flopped around during printing and retractions. I also didn't like the way that it looked sitting up so high. Taking inspiration from two other lay down designs, I decided to make my own minimalist design that you couldn't see. I wanted the spool low and centered over the printer. I also wanted it to be nice and smooth as it unwinds. **NOTE: My hub size is for 54mm spool holes! If you want anything smaller or larger, you'll have to make your own hub or adapter. Or, you might try this hub as it uses the same size bearing - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4840920 I may make a future version that sits even lower but I'm happy with this one for now. Having used this for a while now, I'm very satisfied with how much it reduces the movement and shaking of the printer during printing. I think it looks much better as well. This uses one S6901-2RS Deep Groove Ball Bearing. 12mm x 24mm x 6mm Double Sealed 440C Stainless Steel This is a very simple print with the need for only one support under the bearing hole. To keep it smooth, use the Enable Support Roof setting. I used .3 layers and around 25% infill.
