**Update**: Version 2 is now available to download with an improvement to the geometry and to the flow of air through the guide. It also sports thinner bezzels and a steeper chamfer where the fan meets the shroud, which makes it less obstructive to the fan. This air guide helps by focusing the airflow of the hot end cooling fan directly over the fins of the hot end. Without it some of the air can directly exit the effector through the sides of the housing thus making the fan somewhat ineffective. For mine I printed it using PLA, and even though the air guide sits so close to the hot end, it is not affected by the temperature because it is constantly blasted with cool air from the fan. In fact, right after I assembled it, I then proceeded to do another 2.5hr print. After that I disassembled the hot end again to inspect how the print held up. Everything looked perfect with no signs of wear, and the temperature had no effect on the print, so using PLA is perfectly fine. Of course if you want to be on the extra safe side and want to use some other material like PETG or ABS, please do so. There is one more thing this can help with. A lot of people like to upgrade their 3D printers by removing their stock fans and replacing them with a Noctua NF-A4x10 because it is quieter. Some people however have expressed concern with this, and rightfully so, because the Noctua fan usually has around 10-20% less airflow than the stock fans that come with these printers, potentially resulting in less than adequate cooling. This air guide can help with this by focusing the airflow from the Noctua fan over the fins of the hot end and cooling it more effectively, thus negating the lower airflow.
