FLSUN Q5 Filament Sensor Mount

FLSUN Q5 Filament Sensor Mount

This is the first prototype of a filament runout sensor mount for the FLSUN Q5. It mounts directly to the right of the extruder and keeps a clean path for the filament using the stock filament holder. It aligns with the holes in the Q5 case, and you can screw in from the back using spare screw supplied with the Q5 (3.8mm hole). You will need to temporarily remove the small fan in the Q5 case while you install this, however, the mount won't obstruct the air path once mounted. I used more stock Q5 screws to mount the filament sensor (m4??), and have designed the model to accept these large screw heads and provide a bit of play to get it seated correctly. Filament sensors are easy to pick up online cheaply and plugs directly into the Q5 mother board, I didn't even need to change the firmware. Quick and easy print. Check out the MKS Nano 1.2 board pinouts to know what connector to plug the sensor into (easily google-able) P.S use filament detection connector 2 on the MKS nano board P.P.S the sensor I have (I think most are) are one direction of flow only, so when it triggers you need to get the printer to extrude about 30mm more filament before the end of the filament comes out of the sensor, then you can run the unload function. (in summary if the switch has triggered don't try to reverse the direction of flow). Here is a link to the sensor I used, but anything of a similar style should work. https://m.banggood.com/Lerdge-1_75mm-Filament-Material-Run-Out-Detection-Module-Sensor-For-3D-Printer-Parts-p-1323359.html?rmmds=search&act_poa=SKU986130&cur_warehouse=CN
